Grand Committee

At the same time that the Modernisation Select Committee reported on Regional Select Committees they recommended that Regional Grand Committees be established to scrutinise the work of the Regional Minister.

The inaugural South West Regional Grand Committee met on 3 September 2009 - the first meeting nationally - where questions were posed to the Regional Minister (Jim Knight MP).  A debate on the Recession in the South West was also held as part of the proceedings of the day.

The Chair of the South West Grand Committee is Robert Key MP - Salisbury.  All South West MPs are eligible to attend.

Although, the South West RDA does not have direct role in the proceedings of the Grand Committee, it may be asked to provide information to help better the understanding of the economy of the South West.
