Equality impact assessments (EqIAs)

As part of our work on equality and diversity we have developed a process to ensure our strategies, policies, programmes and projects do not have an adverse affect on individuals or groups of people because of their age, caring responsibilities, disability status, gender, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender status. We assess the likely impact of our work on these groups as new strategies, policies, programmes, and projects are being developed, or when existing ones are reviewed.

The formal process is known as Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA). Undertaking EqIAs will help us address opportunities to promote equality of opportunity, tackle disadvantage and under-representation, and fulfill our commitment to equality as outlined in our equality schemes. Our staff are supported to undertake EqIAs with the provision of regular EqIA training workshops and, specific guidance and templates which complement our processes and functions.
