Temple Quay

Area Team: West of England

Temple QuayTemple Quay is part of Temple Quarter, one of the three major mixed use regeneration projects in Bristol city centre designed to sustain Bristol's future and cement its position as a leading European city.

Planned and led by the South West of England Regional Development Agency, working with public and private sector partners, Temple Quarter is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in South West England, covering 60 hectares (115 acres) with a development value up to £750 million.

The renaissance of Temple Quarter started with Temple Quay which quickly established the area as the prime office location in Bristol City centre.

Working in partnership with developers Castlemore, the first phase of Temple Quay has attracted significant inward investment, with nearly 80,000 sq ms (800,000 sq ft) of office development. Major occupiers include lawyers Osborne Clarke, Government Office, DEFRA, financial services company Bank of Ireland (formerly Bristol & West) and British Telecom. A mixed office, retail and residential development is planned for the remaining pot.

In 2005/6, Bristol legal firm Bond Pearce was the latest firm to be attracted to Temple Quay, moving their 230 staff into the top three floors of a new £40 million office building built by Rok Development.

Building on the success of the first phase, Temple Quay 2 will provide a further 60,000 sq ms of A1 offices, up to 500 new homes and a range of waterfront cafés, restaurants and bars. Developer Castlemore has bought the land and secured planning permission for redevelopment, with part of the site being sold to Barratt Homes Ltd for residential development.

Peter Holloway, development manager at the South West RDA says: "Temple Quay helped kick-start a regeneration project which is helping to put Bristol on the international map in terms of its economy, growth and the quality of life for people who live in the city."
