Aardman exhibition will strengthen Bristol's reputation as a creative hub

22 July 2009

Animate It!, an interactive exhibition featuring Aardman characters such as Wallace and Gromit was launched on Wednesday 8th July at Explore-At-Bristol.

The South West RDA has contributed more than £200,000 to support the exhibition's development, which will allow visitors to create their own animations and broadcast them via a new interactive website.

Ann O'Driscoll, the South West RDA's head of business development for the West of England and Gloucestershire, said: "The creative industries sector has been growing faster than the rest of the economy and, despite the recession, it continues to grow twice as fast as any other sector in the South West region.

"National and international names, like Banksy and Aardman, have helped to put Bristol on the map as a creative and media hub and this exhibition will inspire creativity, promote innovation while adding to the cultural offer at the harbourside."

The South West RDA has invested in the regeneration of the harbourside, such as supporting the establishment of the Pervasive Media Studios - a test bed for new forms of media - as well as helping to secure the long term future of The Watershed by providing it with the funds to buy its premises. Surplus rents are re-invested by The Watershed to support the creative sector in areas such as skills, development, networking and innovation.
