Green business gets its own ‘one stop advice shop’
27 July 2010
An interactive publication designed to help the region’s many
environmental businesses to grow has been launched by the South
West RDA (Regional Development Agency).
The new on-line service gives practical advice and support
relevant to all environmental businesses, whether it’s a green
entrepreneur with a brilliant idea or an established company
looking to expand into new markets.
The interactive PDF document works like a ‘clickable’ website.
It covers the entire lifecycle of an environmental business,
including sections on proving your idea using research and
development, commercialising technology, growing your business,
networking and expanding internationally.
The document covers European, national and regional support
programmes with interactive links to show who to apply to for
funding and what kinds of company would be eligible for the
programmes and schemes.
The ‘green’ technologies business sector is growing rapidly in
the South West. Its strengths lie particularly in renewable energy,
waste, low carbon transport and sustainable construction.
Ian Watson, head of strategic marketing at the South West RDA,
said: “These new green businesses are a hugely important source of
future growth for the regional economy. There is a wealth of
support and funding available from a whole range of different UK
and European bodies but tracking it down can be time consuming and
costly.
“With this new publication everything they need is in one place
so they can access the resources they require as quickly and simply
as possible. “
The global market for low carbon environmental goods and
services (LCEGS) was valued at just over £3 trillion in 2007/8 and
recent estimates suggest that this could rise to £4.3 trillion by
2015. *
