Opportunities for ‘clean’ technology

June 2010

Stephen Peacock, the Agency’s Executive Director of Enterprise and Innovation, was invited to address a select audience of business leaders and investors during a ‘cleantech’ forum looking at the barriers and opportunities facing clean technology industries in the UK.

The forum was organised by the Cornwall Development Company as part of a two-day event in central London to promote Cornwall as a business location.

Stephen outlined how the RDA continues to invest in and lead the transition to a low carbon economy in the region, including significant investment in Wave Hub, the Agency’s flagship marine renewables project being built off the north coast of Cornwall this summer.

He highlighted some of the hurdles businesses face in trying to maximise low carbon opportunities, and what the RDA is doing to help through investment, resource efficiency programmes and skills development.

The forum was staged in a purpose-built inflatable ‘e-dome’ in Soho Square – borrowing from the imagery of Cornwall’s iconic Eden Project – which was home to a number of events over the course of the two days.

On the second day there was an exhibition of 11 of Cornwall’s rising environmental companies and pioneering ‘green’ projects, including Wave Hub.

Throughout the day national and international media were invited to come and find out more about the individual projects and companies as part of the drive to promote Cornwall for green business investment.
