With high levels of wave, tidal, wind and solar energy and a good climate for growing biomass, we have long recognised the potential for renewable energy to deliver substantial economic benefits to our region while helping to tackle climate change through the development of a low carbon economy. 
 
That is why we have concentrated our efforts on supporting emerging technologies that offer significant opportunities for growth and high value job creation, but need support to unlock their business potential. 
 
Our areas of focus are: wave and tidal energy, biomass, offshore wind and microgeneration. 
 
We were the first region in the UK to set up a dedicated renewable energy agency, Regen SW, which we continue to fund and we are developing a range of demonstrator projects and links with Higher Education to position South West England at the forefront of renewable energy development.
