Flames

Introduction

Our analysis has identified 5 key strategic flames that we will use to deliver our mission:

Strategic Flames

Whilst we have separated these out into 5 strategic flames, they all overlap and there are several key areas that we have defined as specific cross-cutting flames.

Education and Skills

Team West of EnglandUnderpinning all elements of securing a lasting and discernible legacy from the London 2012 Games is a strong strategy to develop and raise education and skills levels across all of the legacy flames. Skills are at the core of raising economic performance and increasing participation. Team DorsetSport can be used to engage the disenfranchised and hard to reach groups with innovative and creative skills programmes. Already the Learning and Skills Council has leveraged funding for both research and skills development.

Strong and Inclusive Communities

Team CornwallPhysical activity, through sport and culture can provide the catalyst for communities to become strong, sustainable and invigorated. Rural and urban communities will be encouraged to be part of the London 2012 Games through sport, culture, business, tourism and community development, and improve the way the region is perceived.

Innovation

Innovation, creativity and enterprise are at the heart of the region's organisations and activities. Knowledge drives successful businesses, and the London 2012 Games offer an unparalleled opportunity to do things differently and to showcase our products and services to a global marketplace.

Environment

The South West's unique environmental and cultural assets need to be protected, conserved and enhanced and these principles will underpin Team South West activity.

Equal Opportunities

Team South West will embed diversity and equal opportunities in all areas of its activities and fully endorse
the principles of the Olympic Delivery Authority's equality and diversity strategy.
