Sporting Opportunity

Sport FlameThe London 2012 Games are fundamentally about sport and using the opportunity to achieve a sustained improvement in UK sport; in both elite performance - particularly in Olympic and Paralympic sports - and grass roots participation. As a region, this means delivering a strategy that acts as the catalyst for a major improvement in sports and recreational activity. This is not just delivered by the inspiration of the Games, but by a comprehensive approach that provides exciting and engaging sporting opportunities with a wide range of facilities, utilising the resources of both national and regional partners. We need to build on our sporting offer to elite performers; both in terms of training locations and world class events. It is imperative that we nurture the emerging talent in our region to inspire the South West Olympic, Paralympic and World Champions of the future in all sports.
