Since the Bid we have made a fast start involving partners across the South West, no matter what sector, specialism or size. We wanted to make sure we involved as many partners as possible to scope our legacy and establish core objectives.
We are working with organisations across the UK in partnership with the London 2012 Organising Committee and alongside the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, contributing directly to national legacy plans to help shape the strategy to ensure that the benefits of the London 2012 Games are shared across the UK.
To date we have held visits from Lord Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee, hosted key London 2012 personnel at our regional summit, held a cultural consultation with Bill Morris, Director of Culture, Ceremonies and Education of the London 2012 Organising Committee, contributed to the development of the national volunteering strategy, held two pre Games Training Camps seminars, and hosted a visit by the "Be Part of 2012" Roadshow to five venues across the region.
From the first Regional Summit, "Lighting the Flame", in February 2006, and the appointment of Guy Lavender, our South West England Director for the 2012 Games, through to 10 regional roadshows between June and September 2006, two newsletters, web links, e-updates, the establishment of our Advisory Board, and over 100 presentations across our region, we have endeavoured to make sure we have consulted as widely as possible with all sectors and communities.
Our message is very clear; our partnerships are well established and our plans are well developed. We are fully committed to driving forward our delivery plans from this year onwards.
