An efficient and effective planning system is essential to successful delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy (RES). Consequently, as a strategic organisation and because the RES has significant spatial implications, the South West RDA has an important role to play in securing sustainable development in the region.
To help achieve this the South West RDA engages with the planning process at national, regional and local levels. At a national level, South West RDA works with other RDAs to inform and influence planning policy and legislation. Regionally, the RES shapes and is shaped by the regional planning framework (Regional Spatial Strategy, RSS). South West RDA is a key partner in the development and delivery of the Regional Spatial Strategy and Local Development Frameworks. In February 2004, the South West RDA became a statutory consultee for major development proposals of economic significance to the region, to assist in delivery of the RES.
