Culture South West

Introduction

Culture South West Culture South West works across the cultural sector, clustering the right people and organisations around good ideas, that will strengthen and add value to the cultural infrastructure of the region, and benefit those living, working or spending time in South West England.

As a starting point, we take 'culture' to mean the arts in their various forms, film and moving image, play, sport and physical activity, spiritual life, the appreciation of our landscape and historic environment, and visiting our museums, libraries and galleries.

Our brief is to:

  • provide the main focus and channel for representing the whole spectrum of cultural and creative interests in the region
  • create a shared vision expressed in a cultural strategy for the region (In search of Chunky Dunsters and Joining Up: Culture South West Report 2004)
  • advise key regional bodies including the Regional Development Agency and the Regional Assembly on cultural issues

Culture South West is one of the eight regional consortiums established by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in 1999. Now a company limited by guarantee, Culture South West has a board of fourteen; an executive team of four and an office base with the Regional Development Agency in Exeter.
