Creative Industries

Introduction

Millennium Square, BristolIn today's knowledge economy the South West's greatest assets are its people, their individual creativity, skill and talent. Within the economy those industries based on these assets are known as the 'Creative Industries' - a unique sector that is creating wealth and jobs through developing and exploiting intellectual property. The Creative Industries Strategy (Adobe Acrobat Reader Document - 401.51kb) outlines the South West RDA's strategy for this crucial sector which is recognised as a priority in the current Regional Economic Strategy.  
 
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport defines the creative industries as: 
 
'Those industries that have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.' They comprise the following sub-sectors:

Advertising  
Architecture  
Art and antiques market  
Crafts  
Design  
Designer Fashion  
Film and video
Interactive leisure software  
Music  
Performing arts  
Publishing  
Software and computer services  
Television and Radio
