Business and enterprise

Introduction

Support business growthEncouraging new enterprise and business growth will help to generate lasting productivity gains and more sustainable prosperity.

RDA Corporate Outcomes:

  • Better understanding of business needs.
  • Businesses provided with access to a set of business support 'products' that meet their needs.

We intend to base our engagement with business on three 'market segments':

  • Strategic Businesses - businesses that are strategically important to the region, key sectors or places. Our engagement with these businesses will be handled by dedicated business development staff. We will offer a solutions-based approach that covers, for example, government intervention/lobbying, skills development, relocation, infrastructure, handling expansion, closures or redundancies, supply chain linkages, or corporate social responsibility.
  • Growth Businesses - businesses that offer the greatest opportunity to unlock potential and generate low-carbon, productivity-led economic growth. Our engagement will principally be through Business Link, but with scope for direct engagement. Identifying businesses with rapid growth potential will require a new approach to working with private sector intermediaries and to managing the many networks that we already support. Our 'offer' will be based on a generic set of products and services.
  • Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) - all businesses in this segment will have access to support services. Our engagement will be through Business Link as the primary access channel, and the range of products and services on offer will be informed by the Business Support Simplification agenda.
