Broadband internet
The South West has a world-class telecommunications and internet infrastructure, not least because the peninsula is the landfall destination for North American communications traffic to and from Europe. As a result, there's an abundance of fibre optic cable for broadband communications already in place.
Currently BT is investing a further £740 million across the region for its 21st Century Network (21CN) programme which will convert the current communications network to the latest technology and ensure the region continues to have world-class communications into the future. This superior telecoms provision has contributed to the development of several key industry clusters in the region, using the wide bandwidth as an essential tool for their business communication. Currently, 93% of the region has access to broadband.

Transport
An effective transport infrastructure is essential to the continued economic prosperity of any region and, in South West England, this is largely already in place.
The region is highly accessible by road, rail and air, with an excellent communications infrastructure that allows fast access around the UK and continental Europe. See Getting around and Transport
