Regional Infrastructure

Introduction

AgriNet Mobile computer training Connectivity and movement within, and to, our main urban centres are acknowledged by business and economists alike as major factors in a strong and productive economy.

RDA Corporate Outcome:

  • Improved connectivity to key national and international markets.

Lack of access to major markets such as London and the South East is a drag on the relative productivity of South West England. Reliable and resilient access routes are particularly important due to our unique geography and the peripheral nature of parts of the region. Our main priorities will be:

  • Enabling investment in specific schemes that improve the reliability and resilience of long distance rail services to London Paddington, London Waterloo, Birmingham and Heathrow.
  • Using our influence and expertise to enable investment in the strategic road network, in particular the M4/M5 and the A303/A30.
  • Improving connectivity to the region's main airports, particularly Bristol, and reducing their impact on the environment.
  • Supporting the region's main port, Bristol, to enable a more sustainable distribution of freight, and to improve connections with key markets.
