Science City Bristol
Bristol City Region was designated one of the UK's science cities by the Chancellor in 2005. We were chosen because of our world-class academic research, strong scientific SME-base, and potential to drive economic development through science and innovation.
Science City Bristol is broad geographically - it covers the 4 local authority areas that make up the West of England. It is also inclusive in its definition of science, which includes technology, social sciences, engineering and creative technologies, as well as the more traditional physical, chemical and biological sciences.
Science City Bristol's vision is to "support and develop the area's science and innovation assets to deliver sustainable economic and social benefit"
It aims to drive this economic and social development in three key ways:
1. Connectivity:
- connecting activities, particularly multi-disciplinary approaches to societal issues;
- support for networks;
- support for innovation.
2. Maxmising investment:
- promoting the area's research and technology strengths;
- supporting inward investment activities.
3. Public engagement:
- supporting public engagement in science and technology;
- raising STEM skill levels in our school children.
Science City Bristol is supported by a partnership of key organisations from the public, private and academic sectors.
