Participation

Introduction

Participation It is important that the region fully utilises the experiences of all its residents. People in the South West make a crucial contribution to our economy so we need to ensure that all can participate in and benefit from a growing economy.

Priorities include:

  • raising individuals' aspirations and skills for work;
  • encouraging more small business and social enterprise in disadvantaged areas;
  • ensuring there is equality of access to work, training and business advice.

People living in the South West do not always realise their potential in the workplace. This may be due to low aspirations or a lack of skills. By encouraging people to raise their aspirations and get relevant training we can ensure that they fulfil their potential, which can have an economic benefit for the individual as well as the wider economy.

The South West RDA works to raise the number of people with basic skills and promote adult skills programmes in community settings. The Skills for Life project is an example of the kind of project we will be undertaking.
