The South West Observatory promotes the use of information and research in the South West of England's policy making. This means:
The South West Observatory has a central co-ordinating unit and different modules that link together and work closely under the guidance of a Steering Group. The modular structure allows growth as funding becomes available.
The South West Observatory has five modules: Business economy; Environment; Skills and Learning; Public health and Regional Planning.
There are also seven local intelligence networks: Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire and Swindon. Links to these groups are on the core unit's website.
