A Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) have been carried out as an integrated part of the review. The purpose of both processes is to help develop a more effective RES that takes into account the region's environmental and wider sustainability objectives.
The launch of the draft strategy and delivery plan on the 20th September therefore included the publication of a Sustainability Appraisal and Environment Report. These assessed the draft strategy and delivery plan, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement. During the consultation process , stakeholders were invited to give their views on the SA and SEA.
Following the close of the consultation, all responses were reviewed. In light of these, and in light of the initial recommendations in the SA and SEA, a range of changes were made to the final strategy and delivery framework. These are highlighted in the document below.
A further environmental report will be published with the launch of the RES in the spring, which will provide and assessment of the changes that have been made.
