The timely delivery of essential infrastructure is a key element in supporting sustainable growth. Directed by an Investment Panel, the Regional Infrastructure Fund (RIF) will help ensure that infrastructure is delivered at the right time in the development of the region's growth areas. The RIF will forward fund developer contributions to major infrastructure schemes enabling earlier delivery, and contributing to both the unlocking of growth and its sustainability.
The RIF will benefit both existing and new communities in the South West's growth areas, providing them with confidence that essential infrastructure (for example local health facilities, open space and leisure facilities, schools, bus networks and highways improvements) will be in place early in new developments. This will help ensure that existing services are not overstretched and new facilities are available to new communities from the outset.
Most importantly, the RIF recovers its investments as development occurs, and is working to attract private finance into the delivery of its projects. In this way, the RIF will be a continuously recycling resource, available to the region for decades.
