Tourism and accessibility

The South West RDA also leads the regional Tourism Accessibility and Visitor Economy Stakeholders Forum.

This group consists of stakeholders from across the visitor economy with a remit to improve accessibility in tourism over the South West in the run up to the 2012 Olympics and beyond.

In addition the South West RDA provides the secretariat for the Bath Accessibility working group which has a remit to improve accessibility in Bath before, during and after the Games. Bath is a pilot destination for this exercise due to the GB Paralympic team basing its training camp at Bath University in the lead up to the Games.

Nationally, the RDA is part of the DCMS Tourism Accessibility Stakeholders Forum.  Members represent a wide cross-section of the industry: central and regional government and partner organisations, visitor accommodation, visitor attractions, passenger transport, the hospitality industry and disability charities and organisations.  Further information is available in the Forum's quartlery newsletter.

The forum has 3 working groups looking at different aspects of accessibility in tourism:

  • Business Case Group
  • Training and Customer Care Group
  • Engaging disabled customers
