Our regional role
The South West RDA is a key strategic partner in the South West,
particularly in sustainable economic development. Our role is
to provide a strategic framework of interventions which will help
us meet the challenges we face in the region.
Throughout the South West, partnership working is becoming the
way to work. As a result, our structures for decision-making are
changing so that we can achieve the outcomes which will make the
region a success, both for the people who work and live in our
region, as well as make it attractive to visit and for
investment.
The Sub-National Review of
Economic Development and Regeneration (SNR) now enacted
through the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction
Act, further strengthens our strategic approach by giving us and
the newly created Strategic
Leaders’ Board joint executive responsibility for developing a
Single
Regional Strategy. The Strategic Leaders’ Board is made
up of a grouping of local authority leaders from County and Unitary
Authorities in the region along with a member each from Districts
in Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Somerset.
Gearing up for these new functions, and developing the
relationships and skills to deliver them, is priority. Our
joint working arrangements will be of strategic importance to the
region.
