Grant for Research and Development (GRD)

GRD is now provided by the Technology Strategy Board

Due to the closure of all Regional Development Agencies we are no longer able to accept any new GRD applications (including Initial Proposal Forms). The lead delivery body for the scheme from April 2011 is the Technology Strategy Board.

Eligibility requirements prior to April 2011 (for information only)

Who is eligible

SME’s operating or planning to operate within the South West Region. SME status can be checked by referring to the European Commission Guidance.

Enterprises from other regions applied to their respective Regional Development Agency.

What are the assessment criteria?

Each application will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Technological innovation
  • Level of technical risks
  • Commercial prospects
  • Need for the grant
  • Experience, skills and track record of the applicant and business.
  • Wider Aspects such as environmental benefits and good design.

In addition, projects should provide positive regional impact in line with the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) and the South West RDA Corporate Plan. Whilst we give consideration to applications covering a wide range of technologies, we particularly welcome those that demonstrate a positive impact for the regional economy through the establishment of competitive and innovative businesses.
