South West Science and Industry Council

The South West RDA funds the South West Science and Industry Council (SWSIC). The Council comprises science, business and academic leaders who are committed to using their personal knowledge and experience to increase the region’s competitiveness by encouraging greater use of science and innovation.

The Council’s objectives are to:

  • Stimulate collaboration between universities and business as well as between businesses
  • Offer strategic guidance to organisations such as the South West RDA on potential investments
  • Encourage businesses to invest in science and technology
  • Represent the interests of the South West region both nationally and internationally
  • Create partnerships with other regions to enable better access for businesses to science and technology

The Council hosts regular events such as Innovation Forums and Making Science Work, drawing together those in the region with similar aspirations and helping businesses to access information about European and UK research and development funding opportunities. The Council also produces a monthly Newsletter, which contains information about funding, innovation and business opportunities and events across the South West.
